3 Steps to Start your Facebook Ads Journey

Starting out on your Facebook adventure can be nerve wrecking and confusing especially when you are investing your precious money.

But the best part of running ads is you can spend as much or as little as you want and if you need to stop at any point, you can!

However, the best way to succeed with Facebook Ads is to know where to start. I’ll walk you through the steps to set up your campaign and how to measure its success.

Step 1

The place to start when creating Facebook and IG ads is to create and run your ad campaigns in Business Manager. It's your one-stop shop to keep all your assets in one place such as users, ad accounts, Pages, Pixel, audiences, and Event Manager. To create your Business Manager account start here. Once you are all set up (this part can take some time as you will need to access the back end of your website), you can start building your campaigns.

Step 2

After you’ve created your Business Manager and set up all the different elements (see my iOS14+ blog) the next stage of your journey is vital. It’s time to start building your first ad campaign and you start with the campaign objective.

Selecting the right Campaign Objective when first creating your ad campaign is so important. This tells Facebook what you are looking to achieve and then Facebook will look to find those people. The cheapest campaigns to run are Awareness, Traffic, and Engagement because it involves low-risk action by the user. It could be visiting a blog, landing page or Facebook page.

In my time as an Ads Manager, I’ve had great success with Lead campaigns for service-based businesses trying to generate leads/enquiries as well as Conversion campaigns for e-commerce brands looking to sell their products.

There are 3 levels to an ad campaign:

Top level is where you set your campaign objective.

Next is adset level, where you create your audience, set your budget, select the placements for your ads, and schedule time and date.

Then lastly ad level, where you create your ads, set call to action, select creative and ad format.

Once you have all this in place it’s time to publish your campaign! But don’t just sit back and relax, now the real work starts…

Step 3

Knowing how to read and understand Facebook's many measuring tools is so important! From CTR to ROAS, get to grips with the ones most relevant to your objective. Is your goal landing page views? Purchases? Leads? If you feel your ads are not performing you need to know what to look for and how to improve them. Below are some keys metrics and stats to look out for.

If your ads are not performing firstly check every element of the campaign. Is the landing page url working? Is it loading fast? Are your ads scroll stopping? Are you offering an incentive or a “hook” to get users to stop and take action? Is it obvious what your ad and your business is about? Is it too confusing or not clear? There are so many factors why ads might not perform well, but don’t just give up! Call me! I’m happy to offer an audit of your campaign to see what’s going on and make recommendations.
